For example, Ágata in her youth attends a dance, and at this dance she meets Nicanor Cruz.

The classical aspect of this novel is pointed out by Chapman, op. cit., p. 41. I disagree with the statement that Ágata's sin is «not her own».

La bahía de silencio was first published in 1940, though apparently it was conceived in 1936-1937. Simbad, pp. 362-363. The volume El vínculo-Los Rembrandts-La rosa de Cernobbio (Buenos Aires: Emecé) was published in 1946, but, according to its flyleaf, the stories comprising it were written «hace ya tiempo». It is therefore possible that Mona Vardiner may antedate Gloria Bambil, although the mere fact that the story of the latter has a definite conclusion is no proof of this (cf. Ágata Cruz and Violeta Méndez). On the other hand, the similarities between Mona and Gloria are pronounced, even in the vocabulary used to describe them.
