This is not to say that important and valuable work has not been done. Julio Somoza, though almost idolizing Jovellanos and somewhat capricious in his editing of texts, is the soul and guide of all subsequent investigation. The late Ángel del Río gave us objective syntheses of Jovellanos' life and thought. My friend José Caso González is publishing an increasingly impressive series of studies and editions which will perhaps lead to the fulfillment of Don Gaspar's wish. These and other excellent contributions to jovellanismo appear in my bibliography.
